When is the best time to meditate?

5am or midnight? Confused about practising times? The truth is you can practice at any time.

Different disciplines will extol the virtues of meditating very early, at the crack of dawn, around 5am, like the Brahma Kumaris.

Hard core meditators, disciples or followers of certain gurus are committed to waking up, doing thirty minutes of meditation and going back to sleep.

Those of us who live in the Western world, where work and family commitments take precedence, are conscious we need to earn a living in the material sense. So waking up at 5am in the morning with young children may or may not be your calling.

Be open to change and growth

If you are committed to change and living your life fully, you may take on a practice. Take for example, the Art of Living Kriya taught in workshops around the world. Hundreds of thousands of people practice on a daily basis.

Yet on a daily basis this 30 minute sequence of ujai breathing and meditation may not be practical every day. Unless of course, you have made a commitment to yourself to practice. In India, Art of Living Kriya workshops are held on a daily basis in the big cities.

Energise yourself

If you feel the meditation benefits of Art of Living’s remarkable cleansing and energising practice, you may feel waking up very early every day is worth your while.

One discovery I made with meditation is that when I spend five or ten minutes, tuning into my breath, meditating because I choose to and want to, I feel amazingly at peace and focused.

Given some time, your meditation practice will become as natural as brushing your teeth.
